How many times have you searched for answers only to find they were right in front of you the whole time?
(If you answered “Never”, then you really need to keep reading!)
Why does that happen?
Without a doubt, painful or stressful situations take you off your A-game, especially if those situations are unexpected.
If it involves a serious health issue with you, your child or some other loved one, emotions run high, and it’s tough to think clearly.
Your first reaction is to look for ways to stop the pain, right away. It’s only natural.
You want an immediate fix to the problems. But nothing is easy to find.
Too often, the tendency is to over-complicate things. Details and issues all blend together until the problem looks impossible to solve.
That’s when overwhelm sets in. You can feel defeated. And it drains you of energy and hope.
There comes a point, though, when the pressure and the barrage of negativity slows, and you can catch your breath.
When you feel that momentary pause, stop the spinning and just look in front of you.
What is it that you see? What is all that you have? The answer to your problem is probably right there.
Here’s what I'm trying to say … and it has taken me a lot of years to figure this out.
Whenever the weight of Ben's 24-hour care pulls me down, and I worry about how I can keep doing this, I just have to look at him and see this amazing person.
One smile or wink from him is all I need to get me back on my feet.
The answer isn't "out there" somewhere. It's right in front of me.
Ben's positive energy is contagious.
His ability to help me face the world, to help me help him, never fades. I just have to be attentive enough and willing to notice it.
It's right there, every day.
It doesn’t give me any super powers to instantly solve everything but it does open my eyes to find the right path.
His smile alone can open the door to unlimited hope.
To feel the motivation I'm talking about, listen to this clip from a song by "Bad English". They were an 1980s band that didn't last long but did post a few hits.

"Sometimes I wonder how I'd ever make it through this world without having you
I just wouldn't have a clue
'Cause sometimes it seems like this world's closing in on me
And there's no way of breaking free ...
Sometimes I wanna give up
I wanna give in, I wanna quit the fight
And then I see you, and everything's alright
When I see you smile, I can face the world
You know I can do anything.
When I see you smile, I see a ray of light
I see it shining right through the rain.”
You probably already have all you need to live an amazing life. Especially during the really tough and lonely times.
Look around. It’s right there in front of you.
